Today I’m proud to debut a project I’ve been working on for the past year, Artonomous. It’s a collection of interview with artists and activists from around the country. You can take a look at the videos at www.artonomous.org

Took these two photos this weekend, which I think are a step outside of a lot of what I typically shoot, but that I’m pretty happy with. It’s nice to see myself breaking out of habits a little bit as I continue to shoot.
I had a super busy weekend covering Summer Solstice Jazz Festival, Old Town Scrapfest, and Festival of the Sun & Moon this weekend for ACGL, but I had a blast checking it all out. I love going to festivals like these and just seeing all the things this city, state, and community has to offer.
You can find more photos from these events at the Arts Council of Greater Lansing Facebook page.

I’m wrapping up a photo story I’ve been working on about Gretel Geist-Rutledge, a local fabric artist and printmaker. For her, art is all about the sheer pleasure of creating. She doesn’t stress herself about it, and she doesn’t do it for a living, it’s just something she is passionate about. I think that’s something any artist can learn from.

This piece was created by Okemos, Mich. based artist Craig Mitchell Smith and was taken while on assignment for the Arts Council of Greater Lansing. Smith creates some really incredible glass art which is really fun to shoot and amazing to look at. I had a lot of fun working with this stuff, would love to do more work like this in the future.

This weekend I helped out Doug Mains and the City Folk with some new shirts for their CD release show. This was my first stab at doing shirts, and though they’ve got their flaws, I’m really happy with the results and had a lot of fun doing it. It’s always really cool seeing something go from a file on a computer screen to a concrete image that you can touch. I’d like to do more shirts (and print work in general) in the future, so if you’d like something done, let’s talk!

This semester I took a course called Comics and Visual Narratives. Throughout the semester, we created four comics and for our final project, we bound the comics into a book, which we are on Wednesday at 21st Century Comics and Games in East Lansing. I’m really excited about this, it’s been a lot of work putting this thing together throughout the semester and I’m really proud of the finished product.
Therefore, I’m hoping a lot of people come to the actual sale and signing. There is some incredibly impressive work on sale and the most any of our books costs is $4.00. So at most, you’re spending a dollar per story. Not to mention you’re supporting local artists and helping us get our feet off the ground!
If you’ve got a couple extra minutes on Wednesday, stop by 21st Century between 5-7pm and at least say hi and check out our work. And if you want a copy of my book but wont be able to make it, please please please let me know! I’m going to put together a process-post throughout soon that shows the steps I took to get to the finished product some time before the event, so be on the lookout for that too!
TL;DR - COME BuY MY STUFF!
